Third Filming Session

On the 20th of November I decided to go out and film some nature shots as I was struggling to pin down my actress as she is busy with final assignments for university. I went into my garden and filmed things such as my trees, my grass and little decorative things round my garden. Below is a print screen of the 23 videos I took.

Experimenting CD Writing

Above is a print screen of a rough CD for my ancillary task shows the wring in a green font and a tint of green over the whole image. I decided to try this as my actress in the image wears a green hat so to tie in with this I made everything an autumnal green. I then changed the colour of the writing and the tint to purple to see what effect it gave. I didnt like the colours as it made the picture look very dark and dull. I wanted a girly, happy vibe not a gothic, depressed feel. therefore I am not going to use purple and possibly will be using green.

Frustration

At this point in the year I was hoping to have finished filming my actress for my music video and be in the editing stage. But frustratingly, I have only been able to film half of my music video. This being because my the actress I have chosen is in Universtiy, meaning she has limited time to do fliming for me as she has studies to do. I have been trying to squeeze in time to film as soon the weather will disappear and I wont have the same weather as I did the first time I filmed. This is all very annoying for me and I have decided to give myself a deadline of the end of next week to have two more sessions filmed, one outside and one in a car park. Whilst I am waiting for my actress to be free I am going to go out this afternoon and film some nature shots to fill my video up, I will film things like grass, trees, leaves and the sky to fit in with my autumnal theme. I am attempting to film my actress this weekend even if it is to just go through the song twice to just give me some more shots to go from. In the meantime from not being able to film I have been able to work on my acillary task which as seen on my blog is developing well. Overall, I hope to have finished all of my filming by the first week of decmeber as this is delaying me from editing.

Poster Development

On Photoshop I deicded to start making a rough poster. First of all I picked one of the images of which I took on my second time shooting which had a large about of room around my actress because this is where I would write things without it coving my actress. Next I cropped the image down so that there wasnt too much space around my actress in the picture as this could make her look small and the focus may be taken off of her and onto the background of the image. I then changed the brightness on the image to make it clearer and stand out more. After this I looked through fonts on a site I use called 'dafont.com'. I found the font above and staright away loved it. I made my actresses name and the album name all in the same font and colourto show continuity. Lastly for this final image I used a glitter glare image ontop of the image of my actress in a gold colour to match the colour of my writing. I changed the opacity so that it didnt stand out too much. For a final touch I found the image in the bottom right hand corner and placed it here as this is a convention for album poster advertisments as it lets the reader know the album is now avaliable on itunes or is now a download.

Title of Album

After I came up with the name for my artist I then had to find a name for my album. I first thought about the song of which I am in the process of making a music video for and thought about what feelings showed. I wrote down some of these.

Betrayed
Lonely
Wanting to run away
Having to leave things behind
Anger
Giving up
Disappointment
Realization

From these phases and words I came up with a couple f names for the album which I felt related to the phases and words. Here they are.

Sail Away
Running
One Step Backwards
Voyage
Always and Never
Fullstop

I also asked my friends about these album names to see which ones where the most popular. The album name which was most liked was 'Voyage'. I like this name as I feel it connotes venturing through life, and coming across obstacles and how to overcome them. Therefore, I now have an album name and artist name too.

Name of Artist for Album

For my music video I need to chose a name for my actress who features within it. I started to write down a couple of name I liked and then I decided to ask some friends which name they liked most. Here is the list of name I came up with.

Samantha Shaw
Jenny Crosby
Laura Green
Harper Hayden
Rosa Stone
Veva Moors
Jayla Madison
Maddie Bunker
London Fairchild

Out of all of these names 'Harper Hayden' got the most votes. This is now the name of my artist for my album.

Experimenting In Photoshop

This image shows what I am currently working on in Photoshop as well as doing research for my ancillary task. This is an image which I liked and I put it in to Photoshop to play around with it and see how I liked it. I first cropped it into a circluar shape using the cutting tool. I the layered an image of glitter ontop as I decided this would be a theme in my images and something that would help recognise my artist. I fadded the opacity a lot on the glitter so it was only light on top and you can still see the original image underneath. I then cut a smaller circle from the middle of everything to make sure it looked like the CD. Once done, I decided I like this and it is an option for my CD picture the only thing I would change is the opacity as the image is very light after layering and changing these factors.

Bad Images

This picture is one I took on the second time I filmed. Even thought the quality of the image is good, I cannot use this photo as my actresses eyes are shut. This isnt good as she isnt looking at the camera which is a key thing with my pictures. Therefore, I will not be using this at all during my project.

I really like this image I took the first time I filmed but unfortunately I cannot use this for my project as even though the focus is perfect and the framing, lighting, and spacing is also good, my actress isnt looking at the camera which is key for my images.

I cannot use this image which I also took on the second day I filmed because my actress has her eyes shut here again, which is a shame as the focus is lovely in this image.

Two Door Cinema Club DigiPak Analysis

This is the front cover of Two Door Cinema Clubs Album 'Beacon' and I chose to analyse this album cover because Two Door Cinema Club are an indie pop band the same as Ellie Goulding. This album cover is all black and has the writing in white. These colours are contrasting and stand out well on the front.

This is the disk inside the album case, differently to the album cover it is a shiny red colour, this makes the disk eye catching and interesting to look at. Throughout the whole album this is the only really bright colour making it noticeable and recognisable. The writing is in capitals and in red to also make it stand out.

This is the spine for the Two Door Cinema Club album. It is simple black with white writing on it so that the two are contrasting and easy to read. there are only three bits of writing on the spine, the album name, the artist and a code.

This is the inside cover to the album. It is a plain white/cream colour with bright red writing saying the album name. Not only is the writing standing out due to its colour, it is also standing out due to a glow effect around the letters. I like this use of effect.

This is the back cover to the Two Door Cinema album. It has an image of a window and curtains witht the colours black and green. The writing on the back displaying all of the song names is in white to stand out against the dark background picture. In the bottom left hand corner there is a barcode which is a common feature to CD albums. Towards the bottom of the back cover there is a logo and a lot of information such as copy rights and ownership.

Dan Croll DigiPak Analysis

This is the front cover fot the Dan Croll album. It shows an image of the artist central with his name and album name written in capitals and white across the front of him. around him there is a faded mixed colour effect of purples, yellows, pinks and oranges which seems to be the colour scheme of the album.

This is the inside of the album when you open it. Across two pages there are pictures which are personal to the artist and there isnt much writing nor infomation. here the colour scheme is still carried on in purples and pinks.

This here is the CD for Dan Croll's album Sweet Disarray. It is plain black with white writing, this is contrasting and makes the writing easy to read. The fact that the CD is plain black is different from the colour scheme of faded colours.

This is the back cover to Dan Croll's album. It again has the colour scheme of the mixed colours and also relating to the front the artists picture is on the back but this time only a headshot. There is a barcode in the top right corner which is usual on albums. The writing again the same as the front in white making it easy to read. Also at the bottom of the ablum back cover there are the usual logos, copy rights and ownership notes which are vital.

This is the spine for the album which has the same colour scheme as the reast of the album even though it is a small space it shows continuity. The writing is again in white to make it clear and it has the iportant information of the album name, artist name, logos and a recognition code.

Hair Decisions

When thinking about details for my music video, I started making decisons on my actresses hair. My model has brown hair and I am going to keep it this way I am just going to chose a style. I made this mood board below to show what type of style I would like my actesses, a combination of all of these is what I would like to do, a half updo with light curls.

Timetable For Recording Session 2

Here is a print screen of my timetable that I created with records in it of the secound time I filmed.

As you can see the second time I filmed I didnt use any props so I left this box empty. This table also helps with my planning as it shows continuity with my actresses hair and makeup. I filmed for only 2 hours this session because I had got used to filming the second time around and I knew what I wanted to film.

The Lumineers DigiPak Analysis

I am now going to analyse this Digi Pack. This is a CD case for an album by a band called The Lumineers, whose genre is also indie pop like Ellie Goulding.

Firstly, the front cover is plain black with white writing and a mainly white picture, this could be because white and black are good contrasting colours and they help clearly show what the writing says and what is in the picture. The fact the picture is in the middle and the black background seems to boarder it makes the picture and writing the most important thing to see here. The fact that the colours used aren't very bright may mean that the CD itself wouldn't stand out too much on shop shelves but because it is just black and white instead makes it eye catching to be more individual.

This is the inside left hand side to the Digi Pack. this particular inside has a picture of the band to show the person whom bought the CD what they look like and sometimes it can help the buyer relate to the band. This is also a good idea because a lot of teenagers like to put up pictures in bedrooms of their favourite things, therefore this could be used as a poster as such. This image has no writing even to tell the buyer it is a picture of the band we just assume it is, but no writing keeps it simple and focused on the picture provided.

This is what the CD for this Digi Pack looks like. It is a plain white disk with the bands name written in black, keeping to the monotone theme, on the very top of the disk. The bottom of the dick has information about record labels and people involved in the album on it with logos. The black and white again contrasts and keeps the disk simple.

Here is an image of the back cover for the Digi Pack and it has a list of songs on the album written in a fairly average style writing coloured white. They songs are simply number one to eleven and are clearly written. Below this there is information about production, recording and copy right. In the bottom right hand corner there is a label which tells the buyer the price of the album originally and the sale price, it has a barcode, and other information for the shop to be able to recognise the album with stock numbers etc. The colour scheme on the back is the same as anywhere else on the Digi Pack, black and white, which shows continuity throughout the whole thing making it instantly recognisable for the buyer to know it is all together.

Lastly, this is the spine for the album which is again in monotone. It has the name of the band 'The Lumineers' and a product code so that it can be found by this number, it also has some record label logos too so that you know who the band are managed by.

Ancillary Task

For our ancillary task I have to make a digi pack for my music video and a poster/advertisment. For the digi pack there has to be a front cover, a back cover, an insde and a spine. I am going to do some research into CD case covers/Digi packs so that I have a clear idea of what the conventions are and what makes a good digi pack. I will also look into posters and advertisments for artists so that I can gather information on them to make my own. I will only be looking and indie pop bands and artists and they are the same genre as Ellie Goulding who is the artist of the song Explosions which i picked to do my music video to.

Second Filming Session

I went out today to film the next part of my music video. I chose today to film my second part because the sun was just the same as the other time I filmed so this with show continuity in my music video. This filming session included me going to a local road in my area which had a clear plain backdrop of foliage. I filmed my song through a few times, took some random shots of my actress as extra shots to add in, and I also took some photos for my ancillary task as I really like the location of my shoot. Below is a screen shot of all the videos I took saved in a folder.

Below are the pictures of which I took in advance for my ancillary task.
